These Terms govern use of LightUp Education and the school portals accessed through its mobile app. “We”, “us” and “our” refer to River Sand Labs Private Limited. “School” means the institution that authorizes your access. The service provides school administration, education, communication, transport and payment-related functions according to the school’s configuration.

Please read these Terms before using the service. By using it after these Terms have been made available to you, you agree to them to the extent an agreement can validly be formed under applicable law. If you do not agree, contact your school about available arrangements. A child’s use alone does not establish legally required adult authorization.

Use the service only with authorization from your school. These Terms do not replace the school’s enrollment, employment, fee or safeguarding policies, or our commercial agreement with the school. Your non-excludable rights under applicable law remain unaffected. Our Privacy Policy describes how personal information is handled.

2. School-managed access and student use

Schools are onboarded under an agreement, and their administrators create or authorize user accounts and send credentials through the portal. There is no general entitlement to access another school’s records or features.

Parents and guardians must have authority for the children whose records they access. A student’s use must be authorized by the school and, where required, a parent or guardian. A minor is not expected to agree to obligations they cannot legally undertake; the responsible school and adult must arrange appropriate authorization. Do not misrepresent your role, identity or relationship to a student.

3. Account security

Keep credentials confidential, complete required password changes and follow the school’s authentication requirements, including authenticator-based verification where enabled. Do not share your password or authenticator codes. Report suspected compromise, incorrect account relationships or unintended access promptly to the school and our support contact.

You are responsible for reasonable care of your account and device. The school may change access when your role, employment, enrollment or authorized relationship changes. We may require reauthentication or restrict access to protect the service.

4. Permission to use the app

Subject to these Terms and school authorization, you receive a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the app for permitted school-related activities on compatible devices. We and our licensors retain rights in the application and platform.

Do not copy, resell, distribute, circumvent access controls or reverse engineer the service except where applicable law permits it. Apple App Store or Google Play terms may also apply to downloading and using the app. Apple and Google do not operate the school or determine its school fees and records.

5. Acceptable use and school communications

  • Use the service for legitimate school purposes and provide information you are authorized to provide.
  • Do not harass, bully, threaten, discriminate, impersonate, exploit a child or distribute unlawful, abusive, sexual or otherwise inappropriate content.
  • Do not upload malware, interfere with the service, attempt unauthorized access or extract other users’ records.
  • Do not post another person’s private information without an appropriate school purpose and authorization.
  • Do not create unsolicited advertising, spam or unauthorized payment demands.
  • Do not bypass school, role, group or safeguarding restrictions.

Report inappropriate content or conduct to the school and our support contact, including the relevant school and message or incident reference. Authorized administrators may review reports, restrict access or remove prohibited content in accordance with school policy and applicable obligations. School messaging is for authorized communities and is not an anonymous public chat service.

6. Information and content you provide

You or the relevant rights holder retain rights in content you submit. You authorize the school and us to process, store, display, transmit and reproduce that content as necessary to provide the requested school service, support it and meet applicable obligations. This permission does not transfer ownership of student work or authorize unrelated advertising use.

Provide accurate information and request correction when information becomes outdated or wrong. The school is responsible for reviewing and maintaining its official records. Do not upload content you are not entitled to share or unnecessary identity, health or financial documents.

7. School fees and payment processing

The school sets the amount, currency, schedule, concession rules and purpose of its charges. Review these details before confirming a payment. Enabled online payments are processed by the school’s configured provider, such as Stripe or Razorpay, and provider terms may apply.

A checkout redirect, screenshot or pending status alone is not proof that payment has been verified and reconciled. Use the recorded status and receipt, and contact the school if your payment and balance do not agree. Do not deliberately repeat a payment when its status is uncertain.

School tuition, transport and physical-school services are separate from access to digital app content. These Terms do not authorize use of external processors to bypass applicable app-store purchase requirements for digital goods or subscriptions.

8. Concessions, refunds and disputes

Concessions and scholarships are subject to school authorization and approval. A concession applied after payment may create an overpayment or refund request; it does not mean that money has already been returned.

Authorized finance staff review refunds. Online refunds are returned through the supported payment provider to the original source where possible. Cash refunds or refunds for externally collected bank transfers, cheques or demand drafts may require an external school-bank or cash process and recorded proof. A pending, failed or disputed refund is not a completed refund.

The school’s disclosed refund policy and applicable consumer rights govern eligibility. Provider and bank processing times can vary. Contact the school about fee amounts, refund decisions, duplicate payments or disputes; we can assist with platform records but do not replace the school or payment provider’s decision-making obligations.

9. Attendance, transport and safety

Location-enabled features support attendance checks and transport operations. Location, connectivity, device permissions and battery conditions can affect accuracy and timeliness. A map, estimated arrival time, attendance record or notification is not a guarantee of a person’s location, custody or physical safety.

Follow the school’s pickup, handover, emergency and attendance procedures. Drivers must not interact with the app while driving. Use the school’s emergency contacts or emergency services for an urgent safety issue; do not rely on the app as an emergency response service.

10. AI-assisted content

Enabled AI tools can assist with searches, drafts, translation, document extraction and learning or operational content. Generated results may be inaccurate, incomplete or unsuitable. Review them before relying on them, especially for financial, educational, safeguarding or legal matters.

Do not put passwords, verification codes, card credentials or unnecessary sensitive personal information into AI prompts. Use AI only within school authorization and the applicable privacy notice and consent process. These Terms are not blanket permission to send personal information to undisclosed AI providers or to make decisions about students without appropriate human review.

11. Availability and third-party services

Features vary by school, role, device, supported version and location. Network interruptions, maintenance, provider outages and security controls may affect availability. Keep the app updated and notify the school of material errors. Important school arrangements should have appropriate alternatives when the app is unavailable.

Third-party payment, notification, hosting or external-content services may apply their own terms and privacy notices. We may change or discontinue features subject to applicable obligations and our agreement with the school.

12. Access restrictions and account closure

The school may remove or change access when authorization ends. We may restrict access for a security incident, prohibited use, a legal requirement or a material service issue, and coordinate with the school as appropriate.

You may request closure or deletion through the school or our privacy/support contact. Removing the app does not itself delete your account or official school records. Closure and deletion requests are handled under the Privacy Policy, school responsibilities and applicable law; records that must lawfully be retained are treated separately from continued login access.

13. Responsibility and legal rights

The school is responsible for its education services, authorized users, record accuracy, fees, concession decisions, refund policies and operational/safeguarding procedures. We are responsible for our obligations as the platform provider under applicable law and our agreements.

The service and AI outputs do not guarantee a particular educational, financial or safety outcome. To the extent permitted by applicable law, we are not responsible for losses caused by unauthorized use, incorrect school-provided information or third-party interruptions outside our reasonable control. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability or remedies that cannot lawfully be excluded, including mandatory consumer and data-protection rights. No blanket waiver of student, parent or consumer rights is intended.

14. Questions, complaints and applicable law

Raise school-record, education and fee issues with your school first. Raise platform access, technical or privacy issues with our contact below. We will coordinate where necessary.

These Terms are governed by the laws of India, subject to mandatory consumer, privacy and other protections that apply in your jurisdiction. Any valid relevant school-service agreement governs its own subject matter. These Terms do not impose compulsory arbitration or require a consumer to waive access to a legally available regulator or court. Where a choice of court is legally permitted, courts in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India have jurisdiction over disputes concerning these Terms. This does not restrict a right under mandatory law to bring a claim in another competent court or complain to a regulator.

15. Updates to these Terms

The published Terms identify their effective date. We may update them to reflect service, contractual or legal changes and provide notice of material changes through an appropriate channel where required. If a change requires consent under applicable law, a notice or continued use alone does not replace that consent. Contact the school and us if you cannot accept a material change so that available arrangements can be discussed.
